Sixth Sense

As a bartender, I get the opportunity to meet and greet people from all walks of life.  Just about every facet of human existence is alive and well inside the confines of a bar.  So, it should come as no surprise then, that I possess a finely-honed sixth sense about people.  I’m pretty much able to know what someone’s all about within the first two minutes of meeting him or her.  Personally, I think my razor-sharp people instinct is a gift.  It’s part of the reason why people seem to like me so much.

Okay so my point is (and I do have a point), Meredith put this sixth sense of mine to work last night at the bar.  Some dude rolled up to her and ended up buying her a drink.  I layed low for a little while, casually pretending not to listen to their conversation.  (Note:  I always do this, not because I’m nosy, but because it’s my duty to protect my female customers from the countless number of evil, drunk bastards who come into Emerald City looking to take advantage of sweet, innocent girls.)

Well, I witness a few minutes of heavy flirting along with a bunch of Meredith’s cute little giggles thrown in for good measure. Soon after, the guy politely excuses himself to the bathroom.  That’s when Meredith asked what I thought.  We deliberated.  And, my sixth sense delivered.  I didn’t see any fancy flowers.  I didn’t hear any wedding bells.  I didn’t feel any long-term relationship kind of vibe.  Yes, this guy was all about the one night stand.  And, it turned out that Meredith was fine with that!  Right now, all she’s up for is a little fun.  Why not?  The poor girl deserves to have a little bit of that, don’t you think?   I mean, it’s not like she’s hurting anyone…

Anyways, when the guy got back to his seat, Meredith stood up and took his hand.  Then they bolted.  It was great!  I say, good for Meredith.  I’m sure I’ll hear all about it tomorrow…

Oh—thank you to everyone who sent me all of those great pumpkin pie recipes.  I actually tried to make Karen in Houston’s recipe, but ended up burning it to a crisp!  Walter made me buy one from the grocery store.  Oh well.  I tried.

The dinner party at Izzie’s turned out to be a lot of fun.  You know, until then, I never really had the opportunity to get to know Dr. Burke, or rather, Preston.  I am SO glad that Cristina brought him to dinner because Dr. Preston Burke is now my new hero.  If you could only see the way that man cooks.  He turned cooking a turkey into a fine art form.  It was amazing.  I wish I could have stayed to taste it, but I had to open up the bar.  In case you didn’t know, Thanksgiving is one of my busiest days of the year.  Which would explain why I’m so freakin’ exhausted right now.

Hey Joe!

If you want to learn about baking, maybe you could ask Izzie for some pointers? I hear that she's quite the baker.

Glad that everything went well at the dinner party. You and Walter look like a cute couple, by the way!

Hey--and if you learn anything more about Meredith and that guy--let us know! :)

Allie

Ooh I'm glad Meredith has found herself a new man and not miserable anymore. It's hard looking at her like that, poor girl. Looks like Derek made up his mind about Addy, i love them

Sherry

Hey Joe!

Addy sucks. What do you think? Are we really supposed to buy the fact that Derek, a well educated, strong man, is going to take back his wife who slept with his best friend? That doesn't happen. Well, it shouldn't. If he takes her back, as he has, he's weak.

Dr. D

well she is satan's whore in salamon scrubs, maybe she has him drugged or something? just thought i'd throw my two cents in. and joe next time bring alcohol :-)

Celeste

Hi Joe!

Great blog!

Hate Addy. Yes, she's the wife but she cheated on Derek with his bestfriend. Derek shoud have just forgiven her but not take her back! He should have chosen Meredith.
Meredith having another one night stand? Hasn't she learned her lesson?

Dana

Hey Joe,
I love the show and all the characters. It is a show that I think everyone can relate to. But Meredith should learn from George's mistake ( with the std) and be a little more carefull about who she sleeps with, but with how Derek treated her, I dont really blame her.

Gwyneth

Hello! I was just wondering if you could elaborate more about your boyfriend! What is his name again? Is he Korean? He's very good looking!

Nicole

I hope we start seeing more of Walter. I liked him.

Natalie

Ilove this show so much!! I still can't believe Derek took what's-her-face back. As for Cristina and Burk, well, they might make an o.k couple, but i don't think it's gonna last. Alex and Izzie make a great couple, but the guy's a jerk. and as for meredith's one night stand- who can blame her? she has too many problmes in her life, but she really should have learned the first time around. and Joe, ur boyfriend is kinda cute. (also, poor george)

Joe -

LOVED Walter! Bring him by th bar more often! And find Meredith a nice guy, wouldja? I know a bar's not the best place, but, you know....

Debb

Did I have tee many martunis or was the guy in the hospital with the constant salute NOT the guy that sat with Meredith at the bar? You said you saw Ms. Grey leave with her bar connection, didn't you? ...if that was someone else, just where did she find her current fling? In an alley on the way home? This is getting scary.

CC

Hi Joe! Love your blogs. :) Really, really dislike Addy and Derek. I'm wondering though - now that Addy is Seattle Grace's 'star' surgeon - could we perhaps see her being too busy for Derek and then he'd go back to Mer for attention? (They belong together anyhow) Just a thought.

Kay

Hey Joe,

Thought that Walter was great. Hope that we get to see more of you guys. What did you think about Christina leaving Preston like that. He said it best, she is a really hard person to get to know. Oh and Mer really needs to get her some with all that she has been through. Hope that someone can find a great guy for her (although I am hoping that some way Der and her find their way back to each other). Hey do happen to know who Der's best friend is. I think he is available know? Stay Great...We know you will!

Same question as Debb--the guy in the bar at the end of last Sunday's episode was quite, well...whoa. Who was this one night stand? Did the cutie get a better gig and this guy filled in, or...? I was so (no offense to the one night stand) disappointed in not seeing the old "new" guy this week. Where did he go?

Emma

So, what did last night's episode suggest to me... that emotional intimacy between Derek and Addison is, at best, built on deceptive grounds...Derek loses the woman he really loves (Meredith), then he has joyless sex with the woman he chose (Addison). The only characters with an ounce of chemistry are Derek & Mer. How much longer do I have to endure the frequent pregnant pauses, longing glances and furrowed brows between these two? Otherwise, love the show!!!!!!!

Elle

Hey Joe,

Some viewers might find it difficult to connect emotionally to some of these characters...the women are portrayed with a "legs wide open" lifestyle...the men are portrayed as bundles of unstable hormonal urges...however, "Grey's" is a classy, well-written show and I'm finding it easy to root for some of the characters...in particular, Derek & Mer.
