Rules and Regulations
Here in the Emerald City Bar, people toss back shots of tequila every single night. They order rounds of jager bombs. They throw darts. Play pool. Yell at the television. Talk about their problems. They certainly do not knit. In a bar. With yarn and needles. Someone please tell me why Meredith Grey was in here the other night… knitting?!
I mean, seriously – knitting? Meredith is my girl and all, but she was totally freaking the other customers out with the whole knitting thing. Man, I’m telling you, people just aren’t used to seeing something like that in a bar. Fights, drunken sorority girls from U Dub and some old man in a corner about to keel over while clutching his Jim Beam – YES – those are the things you find in Emerald City. But, knitting? No way. Not here. I’m making that a new rule.
Even Derek and Addison were confused. Now that they’re all happily-married-couple, they came in together, grabbed a table together, sat and watched Meredith play with her yarn… together. Lately, I hear Derek and Addison have been doing a lot of stuff… together, as a matter of fact. The other night, they actually looked happy. It was cute. But, there was one thing that struck me as just a little bit strange…
When Addison went to the bathroom, Derek walked over to Meredith to make sure everything was okay (I think he was just trying to figure out what, in fact, Mer was trying to knit together – it wasn’t looking so good). I swear, people, in that moment, I saw a glimmer in McDreamy’s eye… It was a glimmer marked by just a touch of chemistry and yearning… One that made me feel like, yep, hope is still alive for Mer and Der. Then Addison returned and the glimmer disappeared.
Anyways, Derek and Addison soon left, leaving Mer alone… with her knitting. She told me she was making a sweater. Didn’t look like a sweater. I’m curious to see how this project of hers turns out.
You know, I haven’t seen Izzie around in a really, really long time. Ever since that dude Denny checked back into the hospital, Izzie’s been pretty much M.I.A. I hear she’s spending ALL of her free time up there with Denny. She’s really made a connection with that dude. Hey, don’t doctors need to adhere to some unspoken rule about not getting too attached to their patients? If they don’t, they probably should, right?
I’d really like to meet this Denny character, but something tells me that’s not gonna happen anytime soon. Alex keeps telling me that’s never gonna happen, because, as he says, the dude is a total goner. Man, Alex has been saying the worst things lately. He’s been in here every night, breaking the bar rules by leaving crappy tips, shouting at other customers, taking women home, and just generally doing all of the evil spawn things that evil spawns do. What is his deal??
Well, folks, I’ve got to get to work on a revised Emerald City Bar Rules sign. Like I said, at the top of the list: No knitting. I just can’t take another night of perplexed faces and annoyed customers. Just not good for business! And, I promise that I won’t leave you hanging without another update for too long. Until next time…
- Joe the Bartender

Actually, right before I saw the knitting episode, I went out for drinks with my girls (my friend Kari was leaving for South Africa to visit her McDreamy), and pulled out a scarf to crochet. I got quite a few weird looks too... but managed to hold my head up until I saw that episode where everyone agreed that knitting in a bar was weird! Knitting is stress-relieving, people... let a girl knit. My brain's still active, I can still talk to you.

Thanks for the update on the SGH crew.
I assure you, I don't knit in bars.
I, personally, am glad to hear that Addison and Derek are fixing their marriage. I believe, though, that Derek is doing less yearning and more pitying. He screwed the girl up and he should feel responsible and guilty.
Sorry you've had to deal with "evil spawn" Alex. Hopefully someone puts some perspective into him and he chills out.
Don't even get me started on Izzie, I'm with ya man.
Always keep in touch!

So there it is!
That little of glimmer of hope for Meredith/Derek fans. This espisode was heartbreaking for those of us that want to believe that Derek really still loves Meredith. Not to mention that the Addison lovers are overtly gloating about the "happily married couple".
Yes, I would like to have hope, but I just don't see it. I love Derek and Meredith together. I miss Derek and Meredith together.
Yep, I'm whiney and a sore loser.
And so the story goes: Guy marries girl, girl intentionally cheats on guy with his best friend to get his attention, girl gets guy back! HMMMMM.

I mean, seriously...
what else is the girl supposed to do??
If she goes home- she's all alone...Izzy is at the hospital with Denny...and George doesn't live there anymore...
She has no other friends and no other hobbies that we know of.
The only "friend" is McDreamy- and if she's not 'doing' him- she might as well knit...at least it's good for her hands...

yeah. knitting in a bar is a tad odd. and what is with addison thinking she can be friends with meredith... she stole her mcdreamy!

Joe,thanks for the update. I NEVER thought I would ever say this, but I now want The Shepherds to work out their marriage. Mer met the most amazing looking Vet and I'm now rooting for het to finally move on from McDreamy and fall deeply for the Vet. Please don't tell me there is hope for Mer/Der, I no longer want them together anymore, please please encourage her to give up on Derek and face Finn. PLEASE!!!

Thanks for the quick update! Your blogs are always my favorite, as you seem to have the most insight and good gossip. Try to talk your girl Mer. into the vet, and not screw it up by sleeping with him before he has sprung for more than a cheap tequila shot. I'm so over her and Derek, and moving on with life would be great. I saw no sparks between her and Derek at Emerald City and was estatic about it. Derek and Addison need to reconcile and have a life together. Also, cut Alex a little slack, he is heartbroken right now-maybe he needs some good advice from a good friend on how to redeem himself to Izzie. He needs to apologize and try to be her friend for now. You could talk some sense into him. What is with homeless George? He needs a haircut if he expects to get an apartment, or else property managment will think he is crazy. Till next time, Cheers!

are you kidding?? You need to set up a Stich N'Bitch at the bar!!
Posted by: Cheryl | April 04, 2006 at 03:08 PM
Joe, leave Meredith be! If she wants to knit, let her knit. Those knitting needles could come in handy for eye gouging too if Addison doesn't learn to keep her mouth shut if you know what I mean. McDreamy needs to come down of his toy pony and realize he is just about ready to loose the one woman that really loves him...the one that would never cheat on him or hurt him. McDoMe, the fab new vet, is just waiting in the shadows, ready and willing to pick up the slack for McDreamy. When you snooze you lose buddy. Go Meredith!

Joe, please let Meredith knit. It's her pennance for breaking George. She's afraid she might break someone else, that's why she's celibate. Makes perfect sense to me. Besides, having seen what is obviously misnamed knitting, you know it won't last long. Especially since she seems to be about to slide down the slippery slope with McDishy.

hello joe, hey i don't do needles of any kind ;-P, did you happen to see a number of McSteamy on the lady room maybe satin left it there in drunken state of mind haha, make sure you have condoms around for ALEX FOR HIS HIT AND RUNS and lets mer have her wooly comfort for dreaming :-o

Shonda, if you are reading this, please please...let Addie and Derek work out their marriage and let Mer have the Vet.
I'm totally and completely inlove with Finn! I don't love McD anymore, please keep McDonnell on the show forever!! McDreamy is not the begining and the end of love for Mer, THERE is life after Derek. She can be just as happy with Finn!
Please please don't put Mer and Der back together, atleast not in the foreseeable future, maybe season5 please?

Okay - I'm glad to see that Derek got up to check on Meredith. I'm getting very very tired of Addison and her chirpy "we are friends" comments. Hanging out with your wife at a bar does not necessarily indicate that you've got a happy marriage - in fact I think it means the opposite...avoiding going home. Derek screwed with Meredith's brain, but I think they love each other...so let's get this story moving on.
Be sure to let us know other little tidbits. The parts we get to see don't always give us a full picture...
Posted by: Vicki | April 04, 2006 at 04:48 PM
Derek and Addison are just...cozy and quotidian. Maybe Meredith does have potential to just be friends with Derek? But then again, I'm just being selfish as I ADORE Addison's character and am in denial that she'll stay on forever. That, and the fact that Addie staying means more of McSteamy, McVet AND McDreamy.

Thanks for the update Joe! :)
I've seen that McDreamy glitter, too, for Mer. Something tells me it's going to go into overdrive, when he sees her with the new Vet. *grin* Ask her about him.

dude. it's about time you posted!!!!

Joe - I'm SO glad Derek's still got that glimmer for Mer!!!!!!!! All the Mer/Der fans really needed to hear that this week. I know Der needs to feel like he gave his marriage to his "cheated on you with your best friend" wife a chance to heal but I hope it doesn't take Der too long to figure out that Mer is his true love. Mer/Der fans are getting restless.

Thanks for the update, Joe, it's great to get your point of view on things.
I saw the gleam in Derek's eye too. I like Derek a lot, but I think he's a wuss. He doesn't want to make a decision about his marriage. It seems to me he's waiting for Addison to say 'You know what? I'm going back to New York'. He wants Meredith, but wants the easy way out of his marriage instead of just being honest with Addison. I would respect Derek a lot more if he had the balls to be honest with Addison.
On the other side of the issue, Derek hurt Meredith when he didn't choose her over Addison, so now I'm not sure if Meredith will take Derek back. I'm getting tired of Addison's forced friendliness with Meredith. Meredith is uncomfortable with it. I would like to see Yang tell Addison off. Yang has just the mean streak to do it.
As for Izzie and Denny, I noticed Izzie put a little distance between them last week, by some of her comments she made to him. I think she is attracted to him, but knows deep in her heart that there's no chance for them. I like to look at Izzie's hanging out with Denny as what she would do for any patient who didn't have family.

Thanks for that little bit about Alex. It gives some insight on what his character is up to outside of what we see on the screen.

Hey Joe-
Thanks for the update. I am dying to see Meredith bring McVet to the bar and have McDreamy check her out then (with Addi talking about how gorgeous COD is)! I love Mer/Der together, but I think he broke her more than she could have ever broken George. He needs to win her back. He can't just walk away from Addi and pick up where he left off with Mer. She needs to find herself again. McVet looks like he can handle a woman like Mer (even if she continues to knit at bars). If COD could handle wearing tights with Batman, he can handle the staff of Seatle Grace!
:-)

Aaagh Joe - come on & ler Mer knitt. She has been going through a ruf patch for sometime now. She has given up her usual hobbie for knitting. You gotta admit this new hobbie is alot safer, not as painful to watch, & defiantly more wholesome than the other one. She did meet a vet who might give her some happiness. I am a huge fan of Mer/Der but it isn't looking like it is going to be happing anytime soon. Plus it isn't fair for Mer to sit around & wait for Der to be done with his marriage. She needs to live- actually LIVE- not wait.
I think Alex could use someone to talk to. He is going through a ruf patch too- hell maybe you could get him to start knitting.
Come Joe you should start a stitch & bitch like someone suggested earlier. It would be great. You know Joe you do have the best blog. Thanks for not taking forever to update it! Keep on enlighting us on everyone from SGH.

Okay, so the vet peaked my interest and I would like to see a fling. But, I miss the Mer/Der connection. I think McDreamy wants his cake and wants to eat it too! Keep us informed.
